Come experience our journey in preparing for our spring choral concert incorporating service learning. The students of Mooresville Middle and Mooresville High choral programs dedicated time to serve others while preparing for a concert with a twist. Inspired by a variety of historical concerts such as “We Are the World” and the most recent, HBO’s “The Concert for Valor”, students discovered a need to raise awareness of persons living with special needs. To that end, they created #bebrave15 and participated in a range of activities showing compassion for their fellow students regardless of ability or disability.
#bebrave15 is the culminating activity for the Mooresville students showcasing their group collaboration. This concert, held in May 2015, was meant to inspire a community effort to further support the vision of Special Olympics. The title of the concert is derived from the Special Olympics Athletes’ Oath: “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” |
Flipping Out in Music ClassThe flipped classroom inverts traditional teaching methods, delivering instruction online outside of class and leaves class time for practical application. Cloudy with a Chance of Feedback
Use digital tools to immediately engage an entire class and reach even the most reluctant speaker. Socrative and GoSoapBox can be used as a bell ringer, to give quick assessments, or to collect data, and both can be used in 1:1 or BYOD environment, online or mobile devices. Not teaching in a 1:1 or BYOD environment? Plickers is a simple tool that lets teachers collect real-time formative assessment data using the teacher’s device without the need for student devices. In this session you will participate with all 3 of these tools as well as get ideas on how to use in your music class.
